Acne scars are one of major problems that every woman has faced at least once in their lifetime, including me! Some scars are so visible and they take forever to fade away. And just when they started to diminish, new pimples suddenly appear and eventually create new scars. The cycle goes on and on, and you’re left with countless acne scars on your face *cries in the corner*
Acne scars can be a huge embarrassment for some people. As for me, I feel so self-conscious whenever I have scars on my face. I feel as if people are staring at them whenever they’re talking to me. It’s not a pleasant feeling at all. So because I have been in the same boat, here are some tips that may help you to get rid of your acne scars. They are tried and tested by yours truly!
Scrub Your Face
I used to skip scrubbing my face and find it as an unnecessary step but back when my face suddenly had a terrible breakouts, I started to include it in my skincare routine. Scrubbing your face definitely helps in minimizing the appearance of acne scars as it helps to get rid of the dead skin cells and promotes cell renewal. However, make sure to use a gentle scrub if you have a sensitive or acne prone skin as you do not want to irritate the skin further. Try to scrub your face once or twice a week, and you will see a difference in the visibility of the scars.
My personal favorites are the Apricot Scrub Blemish & Blackhead Control scrub from St Ives (RM19.90 at Watsons) and Tea Tree Squeaky-Clean Scrub (RM59 at its retail shop) from The Body Shop. They are gentle for my sensitive skin and the beads really help to exfoliate the skin.
Wear Face Mask
You have to make sure you wear face masks at least once a week. Find a mask that has brightening effect as it will help to lighten the acne scars and sooth your skin. When I was having a breakout, I always turn to face masks and they work wonders! You just have to find the masks that are suitable for your skin type. My suggestion is to always go for organic face masks such as the ones from Lush. I first tried using their Mask of Magnaminty a couple of years ago and it has been my favorite ever since. I really see a big difference on my acne scars after a couple of months!
Organic Rosehip Oil
Did you know that rosehip oil is The Dutchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and supermodel Miranda Kerr’s beauty secret? Both of them swear by it as they has been using the oil for years. One of the many benefits it gives to the skin is that it helps in minimizing acne scars. So, I gave it a go and guess what? To my surprise, my skin has gotten so much better! The oil is full with antioxidants and it is concentrated with fatty acids such as omega 3, 6 and 9, thus, it helps the skin to regenerate faster. Rosehip oil also contains vitamin C which is essential in brightening the skin and to even out the skin tone. What more can you ask for, right?
My personal favorite is the one from Trilogy (BAZAAR’s Beauty Best of The Best 2016 Award) and Pai. You can get Trilogy’s Certified Organic Rosehip Oil (20ml) locally for RM81.62 at Zalora
