Going natural is the only resolution I’m about to keep this year — thanks to Root Remedies.

Happy New Year, darlings! Whoa, time really does fly — we’re in mid-January already! For today, I am going to share with you my new favorite skin savior. If you have read my earlier posts, you would know that I am suffering with dry skin starting mid-December, late November last year. I would wake up with dry patches all over my jaw line and I even developed a minor eczema in some parts of my body!

Horrific!

I would also like to confess that I haven’t taken care of my body as much last year. I thought it was pretty much ‘done’ when you just have soapy bubbles all over, towel-dried, and ready to go. I have neglected exfoliation, which I used to do everyday — now I just don’t have the time. And I’d hate to repeat myself, but — I’m also guilty of not putting on body moisturizer.

Luckily, I discovered Root Remedies and the brand came to the rescue!

If you are unaware of this awesome local and natural skin care brand, you are definitely missing out.

Masala Chai Tea Black Tea Scrub from Root Remedies | Photo: Adlil for theCovets.com

Description:

Masala Chai Tea Black Tea Scrub is made with virgin coconut oil infused with high quality spices and rich, aromatic black tea. Inspired by the traditional drink from India, the aromatic spices and rich tea will surely awaken the senses. Using a mixture of tea leaves and sugar as the exfoliant, this scrub is gently exfoliating and will leave your skin soft, smooth, and highly moisturised.

Cardamom – Many of the phytonutrients, vitamins and essential oils which are present in cardamom act as antioxidants. This magical spice helps in cleaning up the free radicals and tends to resist cellular aging. Cardamom contains vitamin C which is a powerful antioxidant. It improves blood circulation throughout the body, thus improving skin complexion as well.

Cinnamon – It gives your skin a natural flush as it creates a stimulus so strong that it draws blood to the surface of the skin, speeding up blood circulation, helping your skin to breathe, and consequently eliminates acne.

Fennel – It is especially good for sensitive skin; it decreases redness and irritation and can help minimize sensitivity caused by sun exposure.

Clove – It helps lessening the effects of aging, like wrinkles, sagging skin, and facial rejuvenation for the eyes because of its rejuvenating and stimulating properties.

Star Anise – It helps to get rid of the wrinkles.

Ingredients:

Sucrose (Sugar), Camellia sinensis (Black Tea) Powder, Camellia sinensis (Black Tea) Extract, Cocos nucifera (Virgin Coconut) Oil, Extracts of Elettaria cardamomum (Cardomom), Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel), Cinnamomum verum (Cinnamon), Syzygium aromaticum (Clove), Illicium verum (Star Anise)

Review:

A perfect combination of two of my most favorite things; black tea and sugar! This scrub was one of the first product I tried, and to put it to the test — I tried the product with my makeup on. I couldn’t really take a photo for proof (it gets messy!), but take my word for it. It works like a charm — as a makeup remover and as a facial scrub.

The hint of tea scent was very pleasant and refreshing. I think people might find the granules a bit harsh, but I like it as is. Just like the controversial St Ives’ Apricot Scrub, the consistency of this scrub is tolerable to me.

The 100 ml volume was too precious for me to used onto my body, therefore I use it sparingly, only down to my neck.  After massaging my face of what it feels like forever, I wash my face with warm water and then I decided to leave it be. True enough, it didn’t leave an oily residue on my skin. In fact, I felt so moisturized, I kept on touching my face every second!

It is an effective moisturizer, has plenty of antioxidants and protects against bacteria and fungus, relieving conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. It is also known to disrupt melanin production, potentially having a whitening effect.

Their black seed oil is produced locally (Malaysia) in the traditional way from black seed imported from the Middle East.

Ingredient:

Nigella sativa (Black Seed) Oil

Review:

This is my most favorite of all my favorites in this Top 5. This is the product I reach for every morning, in the same way I reach for a glass of water.

Alright, I’m not going to get into much details, but this oil has healed my eczema slowly. No more itching and burning feeling. The Habbatus Sauda or the black seed has always been known to cure eczema, the natural way. This oil has a subtle scent, and is not too concentrated that you’d would feel like grease. This healing oil is quick absorbent and very light on the skin once applied. I personally use this oil on my face as well, and I would wake up with hydrated and brighter skin. No lie!

The product comes with a dropper on the inside, which I would give a billion points because then I wouldn’t be making a mess.

I think this oil is natural and safe enough to be used on babies and children suffering from eczema. However, I would advise to consult the Root Remedies team first.

Review:

You guys would know by now that I’m a sucker for lotions, thus imagine my glee when I tried this product. By the texture, I wouldn’t call it a lotion bar, it’s more of a balm. And as per instructed by the lovely Sian — I applied this lotion after shower. At first I was afraid, I was petrified. Kept thinking how this lotion would make me clammy on my sides. But that was not the case — I loved it! The balmy and waxy texture is so smooth upon application, I kept on topping up throughout the day.

My hands, especially — feels and smells amazing too. Don’t get me started on the scent — zesty and not too vigorous! Definitely makes you feel fresh once applied. Or you could try my trick; if you’re stuck somewhere with a headache/stank-ass person — open up this 120 ml bottle and my God, breathe in it. You will feel so much better. It’s like a spa in a bottle, just like that — you’re in your own Zen.

To be honest, this soothing lotion is my favorite among the two. Mainly because of the scent, the lime hint is invigorating. I find that if I apply this onto my hands in the morning, my mood just get relatively better! Definitely going to bring this to the office with me, the minimal design would compliment my monochrome workspace. I would also recommend this lotion to pregnant ladies, as I have heard that the smell of citrus helps to lessen or alleviate the nauseousness (correct me if I am wrong!).

Root Remedies Pure Virgin Coconut Oil Soap, RM 25.00

Root Remedies
Photo: Adlil for theCovets.com

Description:

This pure soap is made using their finest virgin coconut oil, it is snow white in appearance and retains all the benefits of it in the form of a soap bar.

Unscented, it is gentle and suitable for all skin types, especially those with sensitive skin. Despite being simple, it is surprisingly rich and moisturizing to the skin, a reminder that the simplest things in life are often the most precious.

Ingredients:

Sodium cocoate (Saponified Coconut Oil), Water

Weight: 115g

Review:

I used to hate having bar soaps around. They are slippery, hard to maintain and doesn’t justify proper cleaning, in my opinion. Therefore, I was skeptical when I laid my eyes on it. This was the last product I tried — mainly because I couldn’t be asked. However, I asked myself, “The other products works great, why would this be any different? Plus, it’s PVCO, for God’s sake!

So I caved in one day while I was done watching Apocalypto — if you watch the movie you might find the relevance amusing.

The product works wonderfully on my body, and the lather was surprising! This 115 gram of bar soap is amazing, I would leave the shower well moisturized, but with no apparent smell. Which is a shame — it would go so well with my Herbal Essences Orchid and Coconut Milk shampoo (the blue-bottle).

For the price, this soap is worth it. Please give it a try!

For the record, I just absolutely love the shape of the design. Oddly enough, I prefer squares rather than rectangles, so this is aesthetically pleasing!

Final Verdict

Root Remedies is right up to my preferences.

First of all, their clean, minimal design and natural ingredients — I must be dreaming.

These products are not harsh, nor do I experience any allergic reactions. Besides, their packaging is just amazing — I would know what to do with those empty jars once they are done!

If you must know, I have set up a realistic beauty goals list for 2017 and going natural is one of the top three in my list.

I would highly recommend all the products if any of you are looking for a natural or organic transition into your beauty routine.

Plus, show your love and support to an awesome local brand!
