Most of my girlfriends are not into makeup. Even if they do — they just don’t see the point of buying expensive, higher quality makeup. What makes me confused is that they would rather buy some cheap-ass sometimes fake brands (you do you, girl) so long as the product payoff is expected. Or the color’s too pretty to pass.
Not that there’s anything wrong with their choices. I’m not even judging — I just feel that their health deserves well more than that.
When it comes to trying out unknown or drugstore products in Malaysia, it’s so easy for a person to choose. If you’d walk into Watsons’ or Caring– your basket will be full and you don’t even realize why. Honestly, the branding does not matter — so long as it’s a product that gives you benefits. In a different case, when it comes to splurging high-end makeup brands; most people would be asking on which brands to start. Especially where justification is needed to be spending so much on a single product.
Personally, I think it’s easier to splurge into makeup brands – not just for collection’s sake, but the quality it gives. The pigmentation, the sensitivity of the product to your skin, the reactions are all thoroughly essential. It’s not just about affordability.
Ahead are my personal favorites and recommendations. Think of it as a High-End Makeup Starter Kit. You’ll adapt soon enough.
Primer – Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional
This foundation will give you a healthy was of color. It is also very lightweight, no matter how much you cake it on, hence the name weightless. Therefore, it is ideal for an everyday use! This UD foundation has a light coverage to it, but it covers really well. Overall, I would definitely recommend. If you’re not into foundation, you can start with It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50+, it’s highly pigmented and it’s multi-tasking at the same time!
Concealer – M.A.C. Pro Longwear Concealer
For concealers, everybody of everybody starts with MAC Pro Conceal. This baby has been around for years to cover blemishes and spot. The best part? You need the tiniest pump for your entire face so this will be worth the money.
Bronzing Powder – Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer
The award-winning Hoola will pave the way for you, girl. This matte bronzer warms up the face in the right places and this is good for contouring as well! Perfect when you’re on the go! If you love contouring, you’d probably be better off with Kat von D’s contour kit. It’s easy to use, even for beginners. It is also easy to blend and highly pigmented. This bronzer is a staple for every makeup junkie!
No, I’m not going to force you to jump in the Becca bandwagon. However, it is good to start off with MAC’s Mineralize Skin Finish in “Soft & Gentle”. This is basically a subtle shimmer to your face. If you’re into that.
Setting Spray – MAC Prep + Prime Fix+
This lightweight water mist gently sooth, refresh skin and finishes makeup. These Fix+ sprays are great when it comes to blending your foundation or setting your face to a dewy look. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend to use this as a setting spray for oily skin types, but hey – you do you!
Eyeshadow – Tarte Tartelette in Bloom Clay Palette
This palette eye shadow is well recommended for everyday use for many reasons. First things first, there are 12 neutral, on-trend eyeshadows with a mix of matte and lustre finishes. Infused with tarte’s signature Amazonian clay formula, which means amazingly pigmented, blendability and lasting color as the original palette (it smells nice too!). Only this time, they’re all housed in a chic, portable palette with a pretty floral case!
Eyeliner – Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
Want thin and precise line? This eyeliner will make everything look on point. Plus, it has the darkest black ever!
I cannot stress enough how this mascara is life changing. The wand bristles separates and elongates, so you’ll end up with fluttery lashes. Once you pull that mascara wand out of the tube you’d be screaming to people that they’re real, honest!
Lip Liner – M.A.C Whirl Lipliner
You must be living under a rock to not know. This dusty rose, pinkish brown lip liner is long-wearing and looks good on its own! Perfect for those who hates touching up their lipsticks. This creamy lip liner flatters every skin tone.
Lipstick – M.A.C. Velvet Teddy Lipstick
Honestly, it’s not even funny – it’s a cult classic! The famous always-out-of-stock nude lipstick fits every – I mean; EVERY skin tones you can think of. Please promise me once you’re done reading this you’ll pop at the M.A.C. counter? Pinky promise?
Well, that’s it!
What do you make of my recommendations for a High-End Makeup Starter Kit? Yay or nay?
