Bong, Makeup artist
Have you always had a passion for colour?
It’s my signature for the past decade. Whenever I create a look, you’ll see that I love playing with the colours on my palette. I always want to try a new colour combination in an unconventional way.
What’s the great thing about being an editorial makeup artist?
I get to try all the latest cosmetics in my shoots before they’re launched into the market.
What do you wish people know about your job?
Let my work speak for itself.
What’s the next big thing in makeup?
I want us to bring back all the colors! Utter joy to be able to experiment with as many colors as possible when it comes to makeup.
What does today’s makeup trends say about us?
We’re so easily influenced by the trends flooding social media these days, it’s kind of hard to keep track of what’s really good. Because of that, many trends don’t last as long as they used to. But at the end of the day, everyone wants to look as natural as possible.
Your favorite quote to live by?
Nothing is impossible.
Do you think you’re a sentimental person?
Erm, I think I’m not, when I’m on duty, I think I’m quite a serious person. I love to think big, sometimes friends around me think I’m crazy.
How has technology changed your work?
It hasn’t changed much for me. No doubt things like Photoshop has made things easier for makeup artists but we still need to have the skills to prep a bare face before the shoot.
Name a fond memory of your job?
I did 50 make up looks for a 10 pages fashion spread! That is my biggest challenge so far!
Bong’s Favorite Products:
Gives high coverage to even out skin tone, and hides imperfections but doesn’t feel heavy or sticky on the face.
Soft enough to glide easily across skin but once blended, it stays for a without budging. Very buildable to create intense dark smokey eyes.
This is the go-to for instant plumping effect and refreshes lip with a cooling mint-vanilla scent.
Its texture is easy to blend, and the tip is small enough to sculpt only where it’s needed. The soft shades give you just enough tint to sharpen features without overdoing it.
